Moving to a new city or state involves dozens of overlapping tasks โ utilities, licenses, registrations, school transfers, and more. Lumeway keeps everything organized so nothing slips through the cracks.
What to expect
Critical deadlines
Most states require you to update your driver's license within 30-60 days of establishing residency. Check your new state's DMV.
Register your vehicle in your new state within 30-90 days. Driving with out-of-state plates too long can result in fines.
You may owe taxes in both your old and new state for the year you move. Keep records of your move date for tax filing purposes.
Set up mail forwarding before your move date. USPS forwards mail for up to 12 months but it's not a substitute for updating your address.
Register to vote in your new state. Deadlines vary โ some states allow same-day registration, others require 30 days in advance.
If you hold a professional license (nurse, teacher, contractor, etc.), check if it transfers or needs to be re-obtained in your new state.
